washaun ealey a GA southern eagle???

  • supposedly, ealey has been dismissed from the mutts. haven't seen anything official myself, but it's out there. he's been on the outs and his relationship with richt has soured tremendously. especially with the royal treatment of crowell in athens as of late.

ealey was in the boro a few weeks ago with other recruits hanging out. rumor mill's rampant he might be an eagle. hmmmm, i hope CJM vets this well! he could be a helluva back at southern. but, he's gotta come in with a TEAM attitude. this might get interesting . . .

southern's already picked up an ole miss transfer who was a stud fullback in HS but wasn't used much last year as masoli took the reins at QB. the starting B-back last year was a true freshman who's bona fide. man, amazing what happens when you get your program back on the map!

  • I heard this rumor as well, wouldn't surprise me at all after he failed to qualify for the Liberty Bowl.

plus, you don't like reading this, i suppose, in the ajc.com from steve hummer with regards to a crowell visit to athens:

"That next morning Mark Richt — the coach who takes stoicism to new frontiers, the one so criticized for his lack of sideline showmanship — staged an elaborate production for Crowell’s benefit.

The 18-year-old and his family were shown to Richt’s new office, overlooking the recently completed indoor practice facility. As they visited, the Crowells noticed activity down below. Players began filing onto the practice field.

“We got up and looked out,” said Debbie Crowell, Isaiah’s mother. “I didn’t know what was going on, but Isaiah could tell that they were getting into formation. And there wasn’t a tailback.”

The stage was set. Richt escorted the family down to the field. Crowell was handed a Georgia jersey — No. 1 on the back — and a helmet and asked if he wanted to take that empty spot in the backfield. Debbie Crowell remembers Richt painting the scene of next season’s opener against Boise State, asking her son if he could see himself in that jersey and helmet, behind that offensive line, starting his career in the din of the Georgia Dome.

“Yes, sir, I can,” Isaiah said.

“My baby was excited. He was ready to go,” Debbie said.

It was official: The hunt for a difference-making running back had turned the staid Richt into P.T. Barnum.

    You know the rest."

  • It seems official. Nothing to do with Crowell, however. He's been butting heads with the S&C staff over there concerning changes. He apparently was in the doghouse (no pun intended) and was assigned to run steps one morning as punishment. He allegedly missed it. He was then given a "make-up" session. He allegedly missed that too. This is apparently the third time he's pulled a stunt like this, on top of some other stuff (hit and run typed things). Not sure what the deal is. Free story on one of the mutt sites says simply that he's "suspended". Which to me, means he'll have a chance to get his head straight and rejoin the team or say F'it and leave. Sounds like this has less to do with Crowell, and more about him having a hissy fit, or at least that's the rumor(s) that has been floating around for a while now.

He very well may choose to transfer, but its one of those timeless questions, do you take an alleged attitude problem (again alleged, I don't know the man) who is a tremendous talent hoping that a change does him well?

I wouldn't think Monken would put up with Ealey's shenanigans.

he won't. CJM has a great thing going at southern. he's not going to let a "bad apple" spoil the whole bunch. no way!

having said that, ealey is a local legend from right up the road. maybe being closer to home would be better for him. no doubt, a change of scenery would. no way southern can turn their nose up to the mutt's leading rusher if he's willing to come in and play TEAM ball.

I wonder if our coaches schmooze recruits like that. If not, they should be.

If GT football doesn't win at least 8 games with a victory over UGA next year, we need to start considering the post-Paul Johnson era.

Dismissed? It's surprising the guy even got into Ugay.....he can barely count to three. And he's a headcase.

Even if he does go to Southern, it'll be a big learning curve for him to learn the offense. And someone's going to have to baby him just to keep him eligible......

  • LOL, that is tame compared to some stories I've heard since I started following recruiting in the 90s, so this doesn't even include the days of the early to mid 80s where you had coaches camped out in cars and paying for recruits and their families to go to hotel rooms to hide from rival staffs. Some of the weirder...

Probably the weirdest was the recruitment of Ahmed "Batman" Carroll. Coach Nutt picked him up at the airport in an honest to goodness Batmobile replica. And, had a bat signal to great them on their return from the airport to Arky's football building. Urban had all of his recruits load up on a bus. Had the bus driven to the Swamp. Had fans (Gator girls) out there to meet them with the full band playing gameday music and fight songs. Had them report to the locker room where he had jerseys and full pads waiting with their names on them. Then had a full entrance sequence with cheerleaders onto the field with each recruits name being announced over the intercom as a "starter", pumped in crowd noise, and highlights of the recruit playing on the jumbo tron along with a photo-shopped picture of them in full Gator regalia. Did this to simulate "gameday" of course, and this was shut down after he did for a number of secondary violations. And, Miami with Willie Williams was pretty out there, heard the kid liked shrimp, so they pick him up in a limo with shrimp cocktails, drive him to an upperscale seafood restaurant where they hired a private room and basically told him he had his run of the menu and to order anything and everything he wanted. Took him back to his dorm room for the night, which was also fully catered with eats. He wrote a running diary and one of the funnier comments was to see him rail on his trip to Auburn which consisted of a trip to O'Charley's. And, of course, you have the UT girls (which UT is still being investigated for) but had three-six hot blondes befriend recruits on facebook, then on visits, (one reportedly became the 17 year old highschooler's girlfriend) and then travel from UTK to either S. or N. Carolina to watch these high schooler's games in person, of course decked out in UTK garb, and to "meet up in person after the game."

And, these are just the stories that get out. No telling what goes on behind the scenes, but needless to say a lot of these coaches go to extremes, and I'm not just talking Sunday ice-cream socials and ping-pong tournaments (Richt).

it's official that he's been "indefinitely suspended" now. in other words, he's done barring crowell gets hit in the head by a meteorite this afternoon.

as for learning curve, what's the difference between what ealey would have to go through and what dwyer went through when CPJ came in? southern started a true freshman B-back last year who'd never played in this offense. he got hurt and CJM had to call on a backup who was adequate but not a homerun threat by any stretch. southern was perilously low in stock on B-backs last year. they need bodies! suffice it to say what ealey might lack in initial understanding of the O he can certainly make up for with athleticism.

besides, does southern wanna see him at app state or another FCS rival?

There was a story about CPJ walking David Sims out to midfield during pregame warmups in 08 (Don't remember which game) and telling him that if came here he could win a heisman trophy.

Then I'm sure CPJ had a few tricks up his sleeve for Vad Lee. I know in the preseason scrimmage all the other recruits were on the sideline, yet Vad was standing next to CPJ behind the huddle and CPJ would occasionally put his arm around him/discuss things with him/and do things that made him laugh. (Not the I know what was said, but I am sure he was playing to his ego a little bit)

Lack of sideline showmanship? The guy who bounces up and down with his players before the game? The guy who tells his team to go run and celebrate a TD in the end zone against Florida? The guy who ran up to a ref and screamed at him to give Egbuniwie a 15-yard penalty for kicking a ball in anger in 09?

These guys will write whatever crap they can to set a stage for tiny-minded U[sic]GA fans.

During that scrimmage we were running a bunch of plays, then PJ caught wind that Vad had showed up. From that point on every single play they ran in the scrimmage was a pass play.

    cheers

hmmm . . . obviously we must have been catching passes quite well in practice if vad decided we're the team for him. too bad that didn't translate into the games. :(

Maybe Ealey will give some effort down there, I wouldn't bet on it. Monken will have to kick his butt to motivate him.
And make sure someone keeps him up to date on things like: 2+2=4 or You shouldn't ram into parked cars then speed away. Without a license.

It'd be a nice pickup for Southern, but Ealey's not the brightest. Anything they got from him would be a bonus.

funny how richt talks of the "georgia way". are you kidding me? what does ealey have to do to be in good standing? run over a pedestrian next time he drives with a suspended license? knock off a liquor store? :)

i think richt's none to pleased ealey's been hanging out in the 'boro lots. i'd heard ealey had been down to check out the scene, but i was unaware just how much he'd been down here. according to a player i talked to yesterday he's been down numerous times.

From what I saw at the dome a few years ago,Wayson is or was in charge of teh team.He played when he wanted to and looked like he was not a team leader.Monken will not put up with that and may pass on him if he decides to go elsewhere.

the Georgie way is to hire several probation officers for the twenty odd recrits they get every year.Ealey lives in Twin City and its twenty miles or so from the Borough so I can see him spending time there but I still think he cant take the hits or the discipline Monken and his offense need out of a running back.We shall see.

Ealey was doing things "the Georgia way." He is a dumb ass and gets in trouble. Isn't that "the Georgia way?"
