Darren Waller Knows "The Good Word" (FREE ARTICLE)

Darren Waller made a firm commitment to Paul Johnson and Georgia Tech last June. He has an issue with how some players handle the recruiting process.

  • Nice article Jim. I'm excited about Waller because he just has a monstrous frame. Put 25 pounds on him and coming across the middle gets to be a very scary proposition. Seems like a very intelligent and mature young man, as well.

  • Damn - At the very least, regardless of how playing time and stuff go (Although he could be a crusher at that size/speed safet with 20-25 lbs), this attitude is a really breath of fresh air. That's just an all around solid character to state it this way and whether on the field or not he can make an impact just from the character and personal morale he portrays in the article.

Going further than that, it also bleeds into the classroom and giving max effort there to graduate. Really good article

Yes. This is the kind of guy you like to know that scholarship money is going to.

  • Great article Jim. And, good shot young Mr. Waller. It'd be nice if every young high school recruit could read this.

  • Great attitude, hope it translates to the field.

  • Agreed, I hope it does - But even if it doesn't translate as All-America or two deep on the depth chart, he still seems like he's got a great head on his shoulders to help the team and also work hard in the classroom.

Sometimes it's really easy to forget that some of the guys you see on the sideline could be some of the most solid and hard working and important pieces for morale. Sometimes it's these characteristics that allow someone to be All Americans as well. SO either way +1 for a scholly to Waller - Seems well deserved.

  • Glad you enjoyed the article. Darren is fun to speak with and shows the maturity of someone many years older. He will be an excellent addition to the Georgia Tech football team.

  • Funny story on Waller, one of the guys in our season ticket group in 08 brought his little cousin to the Miami game in, his little cousin brought Waller, they were goods friends. Anyway they were both decked out in Miami gear and doin the "U" symbol all pregame. Anyhow, the game happened and we smoked em and he wasn't talking so much, maybe he "saw the light" that night.

I didn't even realize until my buddy told me and I went and looked back the photos, he was a little scronny kid at the time. Who would have thought he'd turn into a 6'5 D-1 safety in 2 years? Really good kid though from what I hear.
