zach klein outta WSB in ATL has tweeted the violations revolve around alleged gifts received by bay bay and morgan burnett. a friggin SHIRT and WATCH!!! jesus, guys!!!

    https://twitter.com/#!/ZachKleinWSB/status/91515551553306624

the only way this gets huge is if the coaching staff knew about it and covered it up. if they reported it as soon as they heard word then they've done all they can do considering it was two players doing this on their own--which they DAMN sure knew better!

if we get busted big for a damn shirt and watch . . .

If true that would be unfortunate. But here is the Law according to Yukonwreck---never trust a kid that leaves school early for the pros. It is the defining moment that he was never a "student athlete" to begin with.

    I don't think so.

Depends on what it is. If it's some UNC or OSU type of crap then he needs to go. If it's the agent giving a watch and t-shirt then that's something else. If it was the case where it was the agent and PJ found out about it and let them play anyway then he needs to go (essentially same thing Tressel did).

I just checked ESPN and there's not even a mention on their College Football page, just more info about an ongoing investigation at Auburn which leads me to believe not a big deal.

A watch and a shirt? It shouldn't be a big deal. If both players received anything like a Rolex, it would've gotten around the team quickly and I can't imagine PJ ignoring something like that. If he did, I agree with others he should be ushered out the door. But, like I said, I doubt a scenario like that played out.

I expect D Rad to come out and maintain the integrity of GT and the fact that they didn't know anybody received anything. I bet he'll also comment on what can possibly be done about agents on college campuses.......

And when I checked the AJC they were in super sensationalize mode......

That sounds insane. IF it's the case, Ohio State deserves the Death Penalty.

Ohio State DESERVES the death penalty irrespective of the veracity of our alleged infractions. But a dozen factory programs have deserved the death penalty and haven't gotten it. I honestly think the death penalty will never be used again.

  • the AJC has updated their blog posting. picture's getting a little clearer . . .

definitely revolves around burnett and thomas. both have come out and said they didn't do anything improper. NCAA says the violations are minor BUT we didn't cooperate as much as they would have liked in their investigation of the matter. huhhhh? WTH does that mean? would we really be so obtuse in such a matter or are they trying to make an example outta us because of all that's gone down as of late? god, i hope not.

no postseason ban or loss of schollies sounds fine by me!!! then, it truly will be just a wrist slap with minor bruising.

in terms of the violations themselves, jim, i think you're right.

according to AJC, the alleged violations are minor--not major. so, we wouldn't be committing the sin of a MAJOR violation before 2010.

now, as for the brouhaha over us not cooperating as "enthusiastically" as the NCAA would like, i don't know how they adjudicate that kinda claim. guess it depends on who was not jumping to. i have a suspicion if we were seriously stonewalling an investigation that would have leaked out in some capacity.

to answer your question directly, i'm not 100% sure.

to interject, after seeing the allegations--which are minor violations--and, reading around i just don't see how they dock us schollies. i know the NCAA wants to seem relevant these days, but they'd be hard pressed to justify taking schollies from us over a damn watch and shirt.

all i've got is what's been reported by the AJC.com:

    http://blogs.ajc.com/georgia-tech-sports/2011/07/14/significant-announcement-expected-at-georgia-tech/

they keep updating the original blog post.

latest from mark bradley at AJC.com:

    http://blogs.ajc.com/mark-bradley-blog/2011/07/14/heres-what-im-hearing-about-georgia-tech-and-the-ncaa/

bradley says he's been led to believe no one will be fired, no loss of schollies, no bowl ban.

    BUTTT, now this . . .

CBS sports blogger named murphy is saying we'll vacate our '09 ACC champ and morgan and thomas were ineligible.

i'm not sure he's done for. but, the higher-ups didn't leave a good taste in the mouth of the NCAA investigators.

from what i've read, D-rad and compliance director broke the faith concerning the investigation. they shared information with CPJ that the NCAA labeled as a "poor decision" as the information was only to be privy to AD, CD, and president. least that's what i'm gathering . . .
