Just having Thomas on the field changes Clempsen's defense. Whether he scored or not his absence would have been significant. Now, hypothetically, what if we had sat him for the Georgia game, and Hill makes "that catch" Woo hoo!

vacating a win over the mutts would have been wayyy worse for many on here than having to give up the championship, in the eyes of some that is the only game that matters all season.

If we had held Thomas and Burnett out, we'd be vacating nothing. Hindsight, but we declare them ineligible for the Georgia game, publicize the redicklussness of the whole issue, beat Georgia, they get re-instated for the ACCCG. IF, IF, IF. . . . . .

  • It's ironic that Thomas' drop caused the comeback drive to come to an end.

If GT football doesn't win at least 8 games with a victory over UGA next year, we need to start considering the post-Paul Johnson era.

Yep, remember that vividly. I broke the coffee table on that drop.

  • Finally, some one in the media has questioned the NCAA.

This is posted on Dinich's page and worth re-posting here: http://www.foxsportssouth.com/07/14/11/Tech-loses-title-NCAA-loses-dignity/landing.html?blockID=538732&feedID=3644

Folks are getting warm to the idea of leaving the NCAA (at least for football): "The hypocrisy is alarming. It's why the talk underground about the big boys leaving the NCAA to do their own thing is more than just a rumor. And who can blame them?"

jones mentions something i brought up in another thread. holding players financially accountable for their actions. i fully agree with this.

in another thread, i suggested players be contractually obligated to follow rules. scholarship athletes should serve suspensions AND reimburse the school for tuition/books/room and board for time under suspension. if you can't perform on the field when you're on a free ride, you should have to repay services you utilize like any other student. as for how you meter out fines once an athlete has graduated or moved on and is found in violation, that's up for debate. jones says maybe a percentage system (8-10%) for a period of time based upon degree of seriousness. i don't know if this is the best way to fine players, but i'm in full agreement something has to be done to hit them where it hurts--their pocketbook.

as for how to make the NCAA relevant, that's a tough one!

If any GT fan wanted a reality check regarding our place in the college athletic world, then today was the wake-up call. Sorry, but unless it's gross misconduct that can't be ignored because the media is all over it like white on rice (Ohio State and Oregon all over Yahoo, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, etc.), a major program doesn't go through this. Remember, rumors were swirling around those programs and USC and nothing ever happened. Once the media made it an issue and did the due diligence that the NCAA wouldn't do, then those schools finally had to face the music.

We went 20 months without a peep (though some posters on other boards vaguely hinted something was going on 20 months ago), and then the NCAA decided to "take" our biggest achievement in the last 21 years away from us. Granted, the administration didn't do itself any favors during the process.

The NCAA basically made GT an example today. The "crime" definitely didn't fit the punishment, but when the NCAA says "jump", you jump...when they say "bend over" you bend over...or else. Welcome to "or else".

This has also been a reality check (which we really don't need, because we all know the score) where we stand with the local media (ajc, 680, 790). The radio east coast yankee/uga boys and the 'no-clue' dying ajc dumb and dumber boys despise Georgia Tech, always have and always will. But as they are really bad at their jobs and are on the whole fools, we should wear their hatred as a 'badge of honor'. The ruling by the NCAA is unjustified and without merit. Georgia Tech WON the 2009 ACC Championship. They won it with brains, brawn, and persevering hearts that would not quit.

I'm PROUD of that team and I'm PROUD to be a Georgia Tech FAN!!!
